No need to feel troubled. I also left Christianity after being raised in it, with my father still being a pastor. I can honestly day my 6 years out of the church has been existentially satisfying and life giving. I don't need a faith in God to have a meaningful and satisfying life. I also don't believe in God, and don't really like it when people say I am in a spiritual wilderness. My life is exponentially better than it was when I was a christian, and my inner spiritual life (aka my well-being) is flourishing. TLDR - you don't need to be troubled by this, it seems he is doing what feels good for him.
